Easter '17: In the class (6th year I.E,)

Easter eggs
6th year Infant Education
(2nd Term)

These games helps us, not only contextualize this topic around Easter, but also we can get a more effective understanding of the language since it becomes useful and meaningful. We can see that all these kids are taking part in the game in some sense, some of them are intrigued or surprised, other are expressing their opinions or they are helping the classmate at the board, but all the pupils are amused with the activity, so we can claim that they are highly motivated. These kind of activities provide a relaxing atmosphere where the pupils can learn, understand and retain the target language in an easy way.

Easter '17: In the class (5th year I.E.)

Easter eggs
5th year Infant Education
(2nd Term)

We take advantage of this activity not only to play this simple game, but also to assess the communicative competence through this speaking and listening activity.

This is a simple game from which we can notice the benefits of repetition which is an essential key to the physical development of a child’s brain. We are using a drilling technique used in the ESL classes for many years by placing emphasis on repeating structural patterns through oral practice (in this specific case, we are using typical simple easter vocabulary). Regarding to audio-lingual method approaches, drilling means listening to a model, provided by the teacher (or from other resources) and repeating what is heard in a controlled manner.
Our stuffy toy (Peter Cottontail) helps us, not only with repetitions, but also with a variety of forms by increasing the likelihood of reaching those children with different learning styles and by providing a more comprenhensive understanding of concepts. We are using our senses to gather information and then process it in our memory. This is an important dynamic and exploration stage where these pupils are processing information in a kinesthetic (or hands-on) way. They are learning by touching, but we are also using their sense of hearing (Auditory learners) and sight (visual learners) as a key tool for a global processing. So,in this simple drill for ESL kindergarten pupils, we get repetition in a variety of forms. In this way, the repetitions work together in company in a Kinesthetic, visual and auditory process.
